Sylvain, also known as The Heart of Sylvain, as well as Magic or The Magic to Aubrey Little, is a being representative of the energy of half of her eponymous planet. The Quell is the other half, and her inverse force.

History

Prior to the Earth's invasion of Sylvain, she existed within the crystal of Sylvain. An attack by humans at the capital caused the crystal to be shattered by a cannon blast, and Sylvain was trapped within one of the hundreds of fragments taken back to Earth as "trophies." For years, Her sentient fragment (within the Flamebright Pendant) passed hands until it was owned by the Little Family, whom she formed a bond with. At the time of Aubrey Little's birth, Sylvain left the pendant, and inhabited Aubrey, remaining dormant most of Aubrey's life, but watching over her. When Edmund Chicane and Boyd Mosche burgled her home, Sylvain took control of Aubrey's body to attempt to protect her, accidentally causing the fire that burned down her house and killed her mother, an event that Sylvain feels a great amount of guilt over. (Aubrey, however, forgives Sylvain soon after learning this)

Sylvain lived within Aubrey for her entire life and provided her with the magic she utilizes during the events of Amnesty. She was so intertwined fundamentally with Aubrey that Janelle stated in Episode 34 that Aubrey "[is] Sylvain", though the two beings were separate enough that there were no adverse effects when they split apart in Episode 35 and Sylvain gained her own form.

Appearance

When Aubrey sees Sylvain in her mind in episodes 24 and 35, Griffin intentionally seems to avoid describing her, suggesting she shares a similar incomprehensibility/indescribability of appearance with Garfield the Deals Warlock. This is seemingly confirmed by negation when Griffin describes her as incredibly similar to Aubrey in appearance, saying that she has a visible appearance where before she had none. Griffin does mention that her indescribable form's eyes are both orange, describes her as "shocked", and heavily implies that the form is humanoid.

Trivia

• Though she primarily only manifests through Aubrey's magic in the series, meaning she's controlled by Griffin, Travis as Aubrey temporarily channeled her fully in Episode 35, making her one of the only characters in The Adventure Zone to have been controlled by two different players.
  • She shares this trait with Arlo Thacker, as well as the three PCs from Campaign 1: The Balance Arc.
