Historyedit | hide all | hide | edit source

Gundren sent the Tres Horny Boys on their first quest by hiring them for "the last job they will ever need to take". The group's job was to escort a supply wagon from Neverwinter to Phandalin. Unfortunately, Gundren was then captured by the Black Spider and taken to Wave Echo Cave, as he is one of the few people who knows where to find it.

After the boys rescue him from Magic Brian, he reveals that, before the orcs took it, he was the rightful proprietor of Wave Echo Cave, and that the real reason he needed their help was to safely get to a vault hidden in Wave Echo Cave that can only be opened by those with Rockseeker blood. In the vault, they find the Phoenix Fire Gauntlet being worn by Gundren's long dead father, Cyrus Rockseeker. Killian warns them not to touch it, but Gundren ignores her, feeling that the gauntlet is his birthright, and puts the gauntlet on his right hand. Gundren instantly goes on a revenge-fueled rampage on the orcs that eventually devolves into just a normal rampage as the gauntlet slowly chips away at his sanity. He is eventually put down by an arrow shot by Kurtze, which results in him exploding and destroying all of Phandalin.

Triviaedit | hide | edit source

  • Because Gundren was a copyrighted character appearing in the "Lost Mine of Phandelver" adventure in the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set, he had to be renamed for the published graphic novel, hence "Bogard Stoneseeker". The canon version of Gundren survived and went on to administer the Wave Echo Mine.
